On Tuesday Westworld star Evan Rachel Wood sat down in front of a House judiciary subcommittee to testify and share her extremely personal story of sexual assault survival. According to Wood, she suffered years of abuse at the hands of her partner. As she explained, "It started slow but escalated over time, including threats against my life, severe gaslighting and brainwashing, [and] waking up to the man that claimed to love me raping what he believed to be my unconscious body. She then shared more of her own truth when she revealed to Congress that she had been hospitalized twice following attempted suicides. The Sexual Assault Survivors' Bill of Rights Act, Business Insider reported, currently provides assault survivors with specific rights at a federal level, however, it does not provide those rights for certain cases at the state level. Futhermore, committee chairman Bob Goodlatte explained that the legislation assured that in federal cases "a victim would have the right to have their rape kit preserved for the duration of the statute of limitations or up to 20 years; a victim would not have to pay for their own forensic examination; a victim would be informed of any results of their forensic examination; would be provided with written policies on forensic testing kits; and finally, would be informed before their sexual assault examination kit was destroyed and be permitted to request further preservation.

This week Evan Rachel Wood testified in front of Congress and detailed a harrowing account of sexual and physical abuse with an intimate partner. Wood and Manson met over a decade ago, when the Westworld actress was 18 and he was 18 years her senior. They were engaged in but broke up the following year. Speculations aside, Manson explicitly confessed to having violent fantasies toward Wood. But back in nobody even batted an eyelash at these overt admissions of violence.
Evan Rachel Wood Shared Her Own Horrifying Sexual Assault Story With Congress
The Westworld actress told Congress the Me Too and Time's Up movements have spurred "waves of memories" of her own assaults. The year-old then likened two instances of sexual assault and violence to "a mental scar that I feel every day. In this moment, while I was tied up and being beaten, and being told unspeakable things, I truly felt like I could die, not just because my abuser said to me, 'I could kill you right now,' but because in that moment I felt like I left my body, and I was too afraid to run. Wood says she was later raped in a locked storage closet at a bar by another assailant after the establishment closed.
Zack Sharf. Wood spoke candidly about her experiences with being a victim and the PTSD that resulted from her abuse. The actress said that she felt like she could die when she was raped, and she candidly discussed about being assaulted the first time taught her to disassociate from her body during future moments of abuse. It started slow but escalated over time, including threats against my life, severe gaslighting and brainwashing, [and] waking up to the man that claimed to love me raping what he believed to be my unconscious body. And the worst part: Sick rituals of binding me up by my hands and feet to be mentally and physically tortured until my abuser felt I had proven my love for them.
